Get ready to quest: Seventh Kingdom IGE celebrates two years of immersive live action role playing environment

Mount Holly, NJ, July 27, 2011—Seventh Kingdom IGE prepares to take live action role playing (LARPing) to the next level for its anniversary event. This month’s game will include new adversaries crafted by Environmental Director Matt Wagner.

Wagner graduated from Rowan University earlier this year, earning a bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts. Using the skills gained from 10 years of experience behind the scenes in theater and LARP, Wagner’s modules (quests, scenarios and role playing instances) have earned him a reputation for scares, safety and success.

Seventh Kingdom IGE is an interactive game environment based in Mt. Holly,New Jersey. Experience a monthly live interactive adventure. Players create characters and embark on adventures based in a complex fantasy environment. The game encompasses a balance of boffer combat and role play and social skills.

The event takes place in South Jersey’s Camp Amity Acres in Waretown, NJ, an hour and a half east of Philadelphia.

Players can save money by pre-registering for Seventh Kingdom events on the game’s site.

Mt. Holly, NJ—Seventh Kingdom IGE hosted a face painting booth and camera phone scavenger hunt at Mount Holly’s Witches Ball 2010. Scavenger hunt contestants competed for tickets to enter a drawing. Prizes included a Nintendo Wii and two pairs of tickets to the Mount Holly Prison Haunt.

Ticket winners are Tabitha Gant and Samantha Besso of Swedesboro, NJ. The grand prize winner is Stephanie Richardson of Lindenwold, NJ.

Seventh Kingdom IGE officially announces their legendary annual ROCKtober event. This year, ROCKtober will be held at Camp Hidden Falls, located in Pennsylvania. The event will take place Oct. 22 to Oct. 24, 2010.

Seventh Kingdom’s popular ROCKtober events embrace the spirit of the Halloween season and include creatures and quests tailored to the holiday. It’s a perfect entrance event for new players looking to jump right into the game’s atmosphere.

Seventh Kingdom IGE is a highly-immersive interactive game environment. Live action role players (LARPers) explore the environment in-character. Instead of living the adventure in your mind or in front of a computer screen, you are able to act out your heroic fantasy adventure in a safe environment at Seventh Kingdom IGE.

Shame on You, VH1 – Geek Guys ARE Hot!

When I write, sometimes I like background noise. That usually means putting the TV on a somewhat mindless TV show. Today I left it on VH1′s “Undateable,” a show that offers mostly-helpful pointers to guys by telling them what not to do. The guests on the show carefully advises men to avoid dating dangers like ‘double denim.’ Then there was the stereotype: Guys at conventions who like Star Trek, Star Wars, or even Avatar do not get the ladies.

Clearly the guests on the show have not been to a convention. In some circles (such as cosplay or some LARPs), the woman to man ratio makes the male a rare commodity, also known as more desirable. All those nerd guys sitting in front of computers wondering about where to find a hot geek chick really just need to get up off their behinds and head to a LARP.

Sure, conventions have fat guys in first season “Star Trek: The Next Generation” costumes thinking they’re hot and/or Commander Riker. The stereotype exists…but just as it is with other groups, the stereotype in the geek community often comes from the vocal minority. This is the same reason some people give for hating Muslims, Christians, or Jews. Religious hate is bad enough…do we really need to make this kind of hate mainstream?

There are certainly ugly geek males and females…but there are some pretty decent looking ones, too. If you only knew about the high percentage of “Dungeons & Dragons” players in the military or at prestigious institutions like MIT and Harvard, you’d be surprised. Geeks have inherited the earth in the age of technology, and some of them are pretty damn good looking.

So simmer down, VH1. I hope Bill Gates buys you out!

Seventh Kingdom IGE to present interactive fantasy inn adventure environment at National Halloween and Haunters Convention

Mount Holly, NJ, March 2, 2010—Seventh Kingdom IGE will create an interactive fantasy space at the National Halloween and Haunters Convention to take place on April 30^th through May 2^nd in King of Prussia, PA.

This environment will feature a medieval fantasy tavern complete with role players responding to attendee conversations. Become completely immersed in a fantasy setting and embark upon a quest in this game play environment. Entrance to the tavern and quest setting is $5.00.

Location, Location, Location

Often, LARPs are limited in where they can host their game. Limitations include number of camps or other rentable locations within their base distance, player amount, amount of days needed, cost/budget, and the minimal required amenities (available buildings, kitchens). Different modules or battle scenarios also have different space requirements. From a staff perspective, this is a lot to consider.

There’s also the point of scenery. Here in the US, I kind of get bummed out when I go to a LARP or see pictures of a game with cars in the background. It sort of kills the LARP mood if that makes sense, and makes for less effective immersion. I admit to being jealous because in the UK, Ireland, and Europe, they have really great scenery including rolling hillsides and actual castles. The LARP bug has led me to get the travel bug, and next time I have the opportunity to travel abroad (or even to the West Coast) I am going to do my best to LARP while I am there.

Article: Avoiding the LARP Killer: Cliques

Attending any LARP for the first time you begin to experience nervousness. Excitement. Fear. And some of us? An anxious panic that doesn’t abide until you are comfortable in a circle of bodies that you can disappear in to. It is like sucking your thumb, or carrying around your blankie. Not good for us but we need it all the same.

Those very safety circles are what usually cause the most trouble at any social gathering with numerous people; summer camps, any sort of class, parties, LARPs etc. These circles are also known as cliques.

Ahhh cliques… how I despised them in high school, college and now they are following me still in LARPs. Let me explain to you that I’ve attended multiple LARPs over the years and at some of these LARPs the cliques are either painfully obvious, you have to look for the cliques to find them, OR there are no cliques to be heard of. I want you to understand that clique drama does not happen at some to most LARPs but if you do encounter them my hopes are that you are aware of what is going on and you can still escape unscathed.

Cliques are usually easy to spot. Large groups of people that generally look alike, share interests, views, purposes, or patterns of behavior can be the beginnings of a clique. They’ll usually have an elitist attitude and keep to themselves. Being a social type of gathering, cliques will throw a kink into the flow things at any LARP.

The staff of a LARP needs to constantly be on the look out for cliques and head them off before they are completely established. That is, if the staff even cares about their game or if they are just in it for the money. And a staff that cares about the game is a staff that you want to be supporting each month.

Once again you are new and have a clean slate… use this to your advantage, learn as much as you can about everyone and look deep into yourself. Alright, alright. I know that sounds cheesy but I mean it, really ask yourself early on what you want to accomplish in the game so you can preplan and not stick your foot in your mouth. Do you want to be good, neutral or evil?
